Children in the Nursery receive free school milk each day. Meals are provided for the children opting for the three day pattern of provision.
All children in the Nursery, Reception and Key Stage One have a piece of fruit every day provided, free, by the fruit and vegetable scheme. Children also have free school milk until their fifth birthday. In addition to this we offer toast and a drink to all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at the start of each day.
If your child has special dietary needs we do need to know because we want to make sure that we do not give them any food which does not suit them.
Children can have a school meal or a packed lunch.
From September 2014 every child in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 will be offered a hot school meal free of charge. Older children may be entitled to a free school meal. Parents and carers need to register with the school office three times a year.
If you are eligible to register for free school meals please ensure that you do so even if your child selects a packed lunch or receives a free meal because they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2. This is an easy process - all we need is your National Insurance number. Please ask for a form from the school office. This is very important because by registering for free school meals your child will also receive additional funding to support them with their learning.
We recommend to parents that a hot school meal is the best option. For children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 all children will receive a hot meal free of charge from September 2014. This is a great opportunity for them to have a nutritionally balanced hot meal each and every day.
In an attempt to remove all cash and cheques from school we are asking all parents to only use our e-payment method to pay for dinner money. This can be done online using a very secure website called ParentPay or in cash at local stores where you see the PayPoint logo. From September 2016 all children's lunches will need to be booked using this method. Please register immediately in readiness for the new system and book your child's meal.

These are stored until lunchtime. We recommend a good balance of protein, dairy, fresh fruit or vegetable and a drink (not fizzy). Children are expected to manage the packaging without help. We ask children not to share their meal with a friend and to leave uneaten food in their lunch box so that you are aware how much they have eaten during the day.
Drinks in school
The school provides water and we encourage all children to drink water during the day. Drinking water is available in all classrooms.
In Early Years after a child’s fifth birthday, parents may opt to pay for school milk. The money has to be brought to the class teacher on a Monday morning or the first day of the school week in a named purse or envelope, the money is not accepted on any other day.
No drinks are to be brought into school except for drinks with packed lunches. Children who have a school meal are given a drink of water with their lunch.
From year three children have the option to bring a healthy snack to be eaten at playtime.
We have a right to enjoy eating our lunch happily with our friends
Therefore we have a responsibility …
- To talk quietly and sensibly to each other, and not shout or use raised voices.
- To eat politely and not throw our food around or talk when we have food in our mouths.
- To not rush our meal but wait until others have finished eating before going out to play (remember the 15 minute rule).
- To say thank you when we collect our meal.
- To respect lunchtime staff and do as they ask, they are there to help us.
- To tidy away our plates and lunchboxes leaving the tables, chairs and floor clean for the next person.
